Hi, everybody! Belated congratulations on the Hugo, and I'm finally getting caught up on listening to a lot of the episodes, such as this one. I was surprised when "Was" came up, as, speaking as a long time hard core "Wizard of Oz" fan, I HATED it when it came out (and I got the first American edition). It really rubbed me the wrong way because it got so much WRONG about Oz. But you know what? I'm an older, more mature and open-minded reader now (I hope), one who actually liked the "Wicked" books when I wasn't expecting to. So I thought I'd let you know that you've convinced me to read it again. I suspect I'll get back to you about it. And if you ever want to do an Oz-themed podcast, I'd be happy to be an expert guest. (Paul can vouch for me, we've had many encounters online and at cons, although sadly not for many years now). Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Congratulations on your Hugo nomination and thanks for another enjoyable podcast!

I especially enjoyed your section at the end where you discussed negative reviews. I review Science Fiction books and articles on my blog, and I agree it's important to be especially careful with an author's first novel. I recently read an author's newly published first novel and very much enjoyed the first half of the book, but thought that the second half was incongruent and found the ending to be simply terrible. As much as I wanted to review the book, I thought better of it because I didn't want my review to be the reason that other potential readers didn't give this new author a chance. Your discussion validated my decision.

As this is a Science Fiction podcast, I would have preferred that the books that you discussed were more Science Fiction oriented; however, I enjoyed Seanan's discussed about Steven King's "It," and have now added it to my must-read list.

Thanks again!

This episode definitely went to 11.

As a book reviewer, I found your viewpoints and discussion of reviewing extremely interesting, informative and intelligent.

And cats riding giant spiders. Enough said. :)
